Ariadne auf Naxos is a tragicomic opera featuring a 'show within a show.' The story takes place in the house of a wealthy man, where a festive evening is being frantically prepared. With a serious opera based on the myth of Ariadne, a farce in a burlesque setting, and fireworks as the finale. When time constraints force the host to demand that the opera and farce be merged - to avoid jeopardizing the fireworks show - chaos ensues! We witness a sparking collision between 'high' and 'low' arts. But through the magic and unifying power of music, the evening becomes a resounding success. Music unites!
Dutch star soprano Annemarie Kremer shines in one of the leading roles. She previously received five-star reviews for Madama Butterfly (2015) and Das Wunder der Heliane (2023). Another notable name is Swedish tenor Daniel Frank. He received rave reviews for his portrayal of Paul in Die tote Stadt (Reisopera, 2018).

This opera is not a revival, but an entirely new production of Ariadne auf Naxos. The Reisopera has invited the renowned Swedish director Sofia Jupither to create this new opera production. Sofia Jupither is one of the most interesting European opera directors working today, and the Reisopera is proud that she will make her Dutch debut with this Ariadne.
